Q: Why hair is frizzy?

A: Some frizzy hair is hereditary while other frizzies come from graying hair. Gray hair changes the texture of hair, making it more frizzy and wiry. However, the most common cause of frizzy hair in today’s world of hair straightening, coloring, perms and bleach is chemically processed hair. With frizz factors on the rise, the best way to deal is to use higher quality coloring products and a good conditioning treatment at least once a month.

Q: I live in a humid climate. How can I straighten my hair and reduce humidity related frizzies? frizzies?

A: Before straightening your hair, make sure your hair is completely dry and then apply the flat iron. Also, try using an anti-frizz product both before and after you style. Anti-frizz products provide excellent protection from humidity.

Q: Do silicone products dry hair out?

A: Some silicone heavy products block moisture from getting into hair. After awhile, hair can become drier. Relax. F2S found a great way to avoid it: Use a deep cleansing shampoo once a week and then give your hair a deep moisturizing treatment.

Q: What is the difference between protein and moisture treatments?

A: Protein treatments are usually used to strengthen weak hair but also tend to push away moisture. Therefore, protein treatments are good for treating split ends and fine hair but not as effective on dry, frizzy or coarse hair. Moisture treatments are excellent to tame dry, frizzy, coarse hair.

Q: Does heat from ironing and blow-drying damage hair?

A: Because of the natural properties of heat, blow-dryers and irons do dry out hair. However, when heat-based tools are used correctly such as not holding the blow-dryer too close to hair or letting the iron set on the hair for long time, the damage is minimal. New, technologically advanced Ionic blow-dryers and Ceramic flat irons actually work to protect hair from heat damage.

Q: Does hair coloring damage hair?

A: It depends. Opposed to popular belief, a lot of hair coloring products are actually very good for conditioning hair. Avoid products with high alkaline. Usually products with high alkaline also contain harsh ingredients such as ammonia and peroxide. Meanwhile, products low in alkaline can actually condition hair, making it healthier than before the color.

Q: At home how do I turn my curly hair straight?

A: Try these steps:
1. After using shampoo and conditioner, apply a heat protecting lotion.
2. Blow-dry hair using a flat brush. *Make sure to apply a lot of tension to the hair, from the roots to the ends.
3. After hair is completely dry, use an Ionic or Ceramic flat iron for an all-over smoothing quality.
4. Apply anti-frizz and block humidity.

Q: I have curly hair. How do I style my hair and keep the curls?

A: Try these steps:
1. After using shampoo and conditioner, apply hair styling gel* evenly throughout the entire head.
2. (Optional) Take about ¼ to ½ inch square sections of hair and twist them around your finger to enable a more uniform curl.
3. Use a diffuser and make sure not to scrunch your hair. (The more you touch your hair before it is dry, the more frizzies will develop.)
4. When hair is 80% to 90% dry, allow the rest to air dry.

*Different gel holding powers are designed for different types of hair. For hair that easily to frizzes, a strong hold is the best.

Q: I have tried everything. I can not fight my frizz. What can I do?

A: Sometimes it's a good idea to work with your frizz, instead of against it. Frizzy hair can produce some nice hair styles. Try getting your hair cut and styled specifically highlighting your frizzy hair. You may find frizzy hair works for you.
